American Whiskey TASTING NOTES

BERNHEIM SINGLE

  • "Made from soft winter wheat with a mash bill of at least 51% wheat ( the balance being mostly corn with some barley to aid in fermentation and to add taste). Less than 150 barrels of this was made and they mad 2 small batches of  75 barrels each for the production run. Appearance: Clear gold bronze color like hard red winter wheat, it is a brighter gold in a glass . On swirling it leaves a light oily coat on the glass with a tear line forming then developing long legs.  First Impression: Nice vanilla oak notes, barrel char, citrus, dark fruits, with a Sichuan pepper note that provides a slightly spicy kick. Taste: Slightly sweet entry, with jammy or marmalade notes, slightly sweet entry, soft pepper and rye notes, give  it  a nicely sweet and sour kick to capture your attention. a pleasant drying finish." CENTRAL STANDARD WHITE

  • "Experiences short aging in an unused and uncharred oak barrel. Clear oat whiskey featuring rich flavor with hearty notes of grain."(thecentralstandard.com) Made in Milwaukee

FEW SPIRITS SINGLE MALT

  • "From the first waft of the nose all the way to the lingering finish, this little beauty is rich and endlessly comforting. It's like dark chocolate and Ovaltine met and created a gorgeous single malt, the most wonderful love story never written." (masterofmalt.com)

GENTLEMAN JACK

  • 96 PTS WINE ENTHUSIAST. "Mellow, smooth, mouthwatering and delicious; rich and pretty caramel and citrus aromas precede complex flavors of leather, tobacco, vanilla and cocoa." (bevmo.com)

GEORGE DICKEL #8

  • "A bold whisky with aromas of light caramel and wood. A smoky finish with hints of maple and buttered corn." (georgedickel.com)

GEORGE DICKEL #12

  • "The only 90-proof Tennessee Whisky. We blend older whiskies to achieve deep, assertive flavors with an incredibly smooth finish. Bold and brazen, this is our Superior No. 12. Concentrated flavors of rich oak and subtle vanilla lead to a long finish with hints of maple, butter and smoke. A whisky with enormous depth, range and personality" (georgedickel.com)

GEORGE DICKEL WHITE CORN WHISKEY #1

  • (45.5% ABV / 91 proof) – "the nose Dickel White is quite pleasant with sweet corn bread, yeast, and a hint of black pepper spice. Corn whiskey has a tendency to be a little edgy in the nose and it’s clear that the charcoal filtering has helped smooth things out with a fairly sweet bread-y character with just a slight edge to it. The entry for George Dickel White is more corn pop cereal than cornbread, and the yeast note on the nose is dialed back in favor of a much stronger black pepper note. In the midpalate it’s the pepper note which comes to the forefront with the corn moving into the back. The finish is fairly spicy with black pepper and clove dominating a fairly long and slightly dry finish." (drinkspirits.com)

GREAT LAKES KINNICKINNIC

  • "On the one hand, you get the malty sweetness, particularly strong on the nose. It’s backed up by the char you get from the bourbon. Cocoa and cherry are also on the nose, which almost call to mind what you would taste in a liquor-infused chocolate. The sweetness, though, belies a deeper, heartier whiskey on the palate. Here, more oak and tobacco from the bourbon come out to play, along with a hefty dose of grain, followed by a hot, oaky finish." (whiskeyreviewer.com)

HIGH WEST CAMPFIRE

  • "Nose: Floral, fruity, bright and spicy. Caramel and butterscotch. Light smoke and smoldering wood from a campfire the morning after. Jasmine, chai tea, sandalwood, leather, tobacco, pine resin and toasted bread. Taste: vanilla, honey, toffee with some nice fruit, blueberries and black cherries. Chai spices - nutmeg, cinnamon and orange zest. Salty caramels. Tobacco. Gentle smoke! Finish – Long, sweet, spicy, and smoky!" (highwest.com)

JACK DANIELS

  • "The nose is quite light and smooth with plenty of sweetness. There are hints of dry spice and oily nuts, a touch of smoke. The palate is quite smooth and soft with notes of banana milkshake, a mixed nut note, a touch of caramel with crème anglaise. The finish is quite sweet with a little cereal sweetness and toasty oak." (masterofmalts.com)

JACK DANIELS SINGLE BARREL

  • "The nose is of good body with plenty of toasty oak, there are notes of corn and lovely cereal sweetness, there is a good smoke note, a little spice and toffee. The palate is full and mouth-filling. There are notes of cereal sweetness, the rye is in evidence with a touch of cigar box and nut oils, a little spice and an aniseed character. The finish is of good length with a hint of citrus and plenty of cereal sweetness." (masterofmalt.com)

TIN CUP

  • "Radiant copper in color, Tincup smells quite spicy and dusty—I can't help but picture walking into an old saloon with shafts of light falling through the windows—but as the whiskey opens up in the glass there's a hint of sweet corn and just a touch of oak that gives it structure. The flavor is all rye spice with just enough caramel for balance—it's a full-flavored whiskey that doesn't pull any punches. The finish is warm, oaky, and surprisingly smooth for such a robust and spicy spirit." (drinks.seriouseats.com)
