CALUMET

  • "Calumet has a customary mash bill of corn, rye and malted barley that offers a sweet, flawless finish. Glowing with butterscotch and soft oak, Calumet’s harmonious perfection of wood and caramel is admirably balanced with complex flavors of light brown sugar and soft white pepper." HUDSON 4 GRAIN

  • "Hudson Four Grain bourbon whiskey brings together the distinct characteristics of corn, rye, wheat and malted barley. Each batch starts with 800 pounds of grain which is ground at the distillery, cooked and fermented, then distilled twice. It is aged in our signature small barrels. Our Four Grain Bourbon is a rich full-flavored spirit. The grains are perfectly suited one to the others so that the end result balances the soft richness of corn, the sharp peppery notes of rye, all the smooth subtlety of wheat and the sweetness of malted barley. Each bottle is hand numbered." (tuthilltown.com) Points East has Batch 24, bottle #123, from 2011

J. HENRY & SONS WISCONSIN SMALL BATCH/ 5 YR.

  • Batch #2, Bottle #598 "A pure Wisconsin craft bourbon releasing aromas of sweet corn, caramel pudding, toffee, creamy vanilla, dark cocoa, cinnamon, coconut shavings and Jamaican allspice, to be sipped and savored." (jhenryandsons.com)

JIM BEAM BLACK

JIM BEAM SINGLE BARREL

  • Age: 4-7 Years." Nose:  Caramel | Vanilla | Mild Oak | Hint of Corn, Orange & Pepper. First Sip:  Vanilla | Corn | Dry Oak. The Burn: This has by far the smoothest finish of the regular Jim Beam line (White & Black label.) Oak comes out in the finish with a bit of lingering spice with very little actual burn. Overall the finish is clean and dry." (bourbonbanter.com)

JIM BEAM HONEY

  • "Made with Jim Beam's bourbon and real golden honey. Notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak with a superb honey finish. We recommend having this slightly chilled or over ice." (whiskeyexchange.com)

JIM BEAM SIGNATURE CRAFT

  • "Unlike many of its 12 year old peers, the nose on the Jim Beam Signature Craft is softer and sweeter. Oak notes are clearly there, but they’re well integrated with vanilla, marzipan, and cinnamon. The entry is much lighter, softer, and sweeter than you’d expect with vanilla and light oak leading the charge. In the midpalate the oak intensifies and is joined by cinnamon and light caramel. The midpalate is flavorful and spicy without being overwhelming. The oak spice is the star of the finish which is medium long and slightly dry."(drinkspirits.com)

KNOB CREEK

  • Age: 9 years, Proof: 100," Color: Copper to medium amber, Aroma: Toasted nuts, grain oak, Taste: Rich, sweet, woody, full-bodied, almost fruity, Finish: Long, rich and glowing." (bourbonenthusiast.com)

  • 9 years, 120 proof, "COLOR Our darkest and deepest amber and henna color. TASTE Deep and complex flavors of vanilla, nuts and oak, AROMA Robust vanilla and caramel notes; slightly smoky. FINISH Long and full; perfect for easygoing sipping. "(knobcreek.com)

MAKERS MARK

  • "A subtle, complex, clean nose, with vanilla and spice, a delicate floral note of roses, plus lime and cocoa beans. Medium in body, Makers Mark offers a palate of fresh fruit, spices, eucalyptus and ginger cake. The finish features more spices, fresh oak with a hint of smoke, and a final flash of peach cheesecake. A delicate and circumspect Bourbon compared to some of its more redneck cousins. Very drinkable." 45.0% ABV (whiskey-pages.com)

MAKERS MARK 46

  • "Color: Dark, deep copper. As you can see, it has quite a bit more red in the juice than Maker’s Mark. Nose: It still has that traditional Maker’s Mark smell, but with a lot more sweetness and kick. It keeps that sweet vanilla and honey scent, but again, you can tell that Maker’s 46 has more to offer than its predecessor. It has a bit more alcohol on the nose and a lot more wood. Sip: Maker’s 46 does exactly what it sets out to do. Plenty of sweetness from classic wheated Maker’s profile, as well as bunch more spice and balance from the oak. Honey, caramelized sugar and red berries load the front end of the sip, with a decent vanilla spice, a light dash of cinnamon sugar, and a perfect amount of charred oak to help balance the sweetness. Finish: The finish allows the burn to pass before the flavor. It leaves the honey and caramel in the back of your throat with just a bit more spice than you are used to with Maker’s Mark."(redwhiteandbourbon.com)  Only made in the winter!

MICHTERS TOASTED BARREL BOURBON

  • "Nose: Light wood, fresh dough, fresh washed mushrooms and a hint of smoke are all present. It reminded me of inhaling a fresh uncooked pizza about to go into a wood fired oven. Palate: Honey, vanilla and light caramel jumped out at me with a subtle hint of smoke quickly appearing as I took that first sip. Finish: Surprisingly a strong sense of smoked wood was very present at the start of this finish, which reminded me of a light scotch in a sense. The smoke faded away and turned into aged oak, leather, and light traces of pepper."(breakingbourbon.com)

NEW HOLLAND BEER BARREL BOURBON

  • "The beer-barrel aging lends biscuity notes and a smooth malt character to the robust whiskey tones of toffee and caramel." (newhollandbrew.com) 40% ABV

 PARKERS HERITAGE

  • Wheat Whiskey, 127.4 Proof. Thirsty South Rating: "WOW* Color:  Deep amber, surely due to those years at the upper reaches of Rickhouse Y (the higher up, the higher the temperature swings, and the more interaction the bourbon gets with the wood). Nose: Toasty oak is quite prominent, in a very nice way. There’s a good jolt of Bit-O-Honey, with dark caramel and vanilla also coming on pretty strong. I also get a plum and dark berry fruitiness to it,  that leads into hints of an oaky cabernet, even some Chateauneuf de Pape. Intriguing stuff. A touch of water softens the sweetness and amps up the warm oak, plus brings out a background buzz of herbal spiciness that seems almost rye-like." (thirstysouth.com)

REBELLION BOURBON WHISKEY

  • "Sweet notes of honey and caramel, which are followed by touches of oak and smoky spices. Long, smooth finish with notes of vanilla and butterscotch." (caskers.com)

1792 RIDGEMONT RESERVE

  • 8 year old, 46.85%,"Good balance of flavors on the nose and palate, with caramel custard, bright fruit (Clementine, golden raisin orange marmalade), a peppering of spice (fresh mint, warming cinnamon, dried vanilla), green tea, a hint of toasted marshmallow, and a pleasing dried oak, tobacco-tinged finish." (whiskeyadvocate.com)

ROD & RIFLE BOURBON

  • "Tasting Notes: 4 Year Old Straight Bourbon, Color: Deep, Rich Copper. Aroma: Sweet Vanilla Oak, Taste: Complex & Balanced, Finish: Crisp, Sweet & Smooth." (rodandriflebourbon.com)

RUSSELL’S RESERVE SINGLE BARREL

  • ABV: 55%, Age: 8-9 Years, Mashbill: 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malt. "EYE Dark Caramel, NOSE Caramel and dark fruit leap out of the bottle with toffee and vanilla coming hand-in-hand right behind. Oak and rye fill in the background with some well-placed contributions from cinnamon, red licorice and mint. This is such a deep, rich and complex nose I could keep smelling it for hours and come across something new with damn near every sniff. Just while typing this up I’ve picked up burnt sugar, butterscotch, browned butter and bruleed pastry. This is astoundingly rich. TASTE Dark fruit, caramel and an entire rack of baking spices start things off. Wood comes right behind with rye in tow while toffee and vanilla, still holding hands, come skipping through. Dark honey, corn, pink peppercorns and mint fill in most of the empty spots with that Wild Turkey fingerprint providing a solid flooring for all these amazing flavors, and then some, to dance on. Like the aroma this has an insanely rich and complex flavor and I feel like I could sit and pick out flavors for hours while exploring this one. BALANCE, BODY & FEEL Brilliantly balanced with the strong rye and wood keeping the menagerie of sweet flavors in check. A thick full body that’s warm, syrupy and feels heavy on the tongue with just the right amount of burn to keep things interesting. FINISH Wood, toffee, caramel, rye, dark fruit, vanilla and mint slowly fade to a warm sweet wood on a pleasantly long finish. SCORE: 97/100"(thewhiskeyjug.com)

RUSSELL’S RESERVE 10 YEAR

  • "Aroma of cinnamon raisin bread, sweet vanilla and honey. Notes of orange, cloves and oak, which are complemented by subtle undertones of maple and caramel. Finish is slightly warming, with a well-balanced complexity." (bourbonoftheday.com)

WILD TURKEY 80

  • "Wild Turkey 80 has a deep, but soft aroma with classic bourbon characteristics of sweetness and corn. The excellent bourbon taste balances traditional caramel and vanilla flavors." (bourbonenthusiast.com)

WILD TURKEY AMERICAN HONEY

  • "We’re the original, exceptionally smooth blend of pure honey and Wild Turkey Bourbon. American Honey delivers that unmistakable kick with sweet honey that ends in a finish as long and rich as a stretch limo full of your best friends." (americanhoney.com)

WOODFORD RESERVE

  • "The nose is quite thick and creamy. There are notes of honey and spice, leather, a touch of cocoa, a little smoke, toasty oak and vanilla cream with a hint of butterscotch. The palate is thick and full. There are notes of espresso beans, winter spice, cereal sweetness, plenty of rye, ground ginger, almond oil, toasty oak and a little rum. The finish is long and mature with notes of cereals and toasty oaken spice." (masterofmalt.com)
